"Huis" Series
Artist Statement: "Huis Series"
Most recently, I have been focusing on the interior surfaces of architecture and decorative arts. I examine the exquisite compositions found in the wear, warping, damage and restoration of surfaces standing in service for hundreds of years. My background as an appraiser and restorer of fine antique furniture has taught me to read, follow and value these often overlooked details and the stories they long to tell. Historic architecture, in abstracted detail: this is a series of work focusing on the often overlooked beauty of aged objects.
I was trained in the exploration of the texture of line with artist Charles Daugherty. The image becomes secondary to the exquisite simplicity and simultaneous complexity of the line guiding it. The line guides my attention and becomes the tenuous strength transforming the image into abstraction and silence.
