Artist Statement: "Meditation of Hands" Series
With this new work, I am returning to my original focus as an artist: exploring the texture of line in the human form. My attention follows the strength of line which transforms subject into abstraction.
Image becomes secondary to the line guiding it, just as hands become secondary to the history they create. Stories of hands emerged simultaneously with this series. During the creation of the artwork, subjects began spontaneously telling me how their hands were dear tools and friends in the making of their lives. The meditation of hands which evolved has become part of this series (and can be viewed below). Upcoming series, further exploring other sensual landscapes of the body, will include meditations and explorations in abstraction.
Texture is created in the image using natural light and avoiding editing. The resulting "meditation" is mounted in unique edition on aluminum panel, allowing a contemporary connection with the composition without obstruction of glass or frame. The works above vary in sizes from 30" x 40" (70 cm x 100 cm) to 40" x 60" (100 cm x 150 cm).

Climbed trees
Given boosts
Changed tires
Pumped gas
Checked oil
Dug ditches
Written checks
...and letters
